"Are You Upsest At Me? I Am Just A Puppy!"

Lucy changes every day. She no longer eats pebbles, she instead ate 2 beetles running in the driveway, and a dried up earthworm! She pulls the DVD's off the bookshelf, chewed the corner off of my "Puppies For Dummies" book (I guess she told me huh?), chews the rug corners, chews on Sky's tail, drags huge objects across the livingroom, and now has learned to jump off the couch, and sorta go down stairs. AND SHE BARKS AND BITES. All day, she barks. She barks at a bone, or the door, at a blanket, at the speakers, at Sky. There is no stopping it. And she has quite the bark, as the has quite the bite. She lunges at your hair, your nose, ears, your pant leg. She bites anything in her path. I hope the biting and barking phase goes as quickly as the pebble munching stage did! All this said, she brings much joy to my life, even as she is latched onto my head, via my ponytail.

Lucy is Playful and Unknowninly, Naughty

Lucy loves her play dates at Sara and Billy's house. She can now go upstairs, where Billy doesn't want her, so it is a constant battle since that is, of course, where she thinks she must be. She chews on blankets, dumped her water bowl over with her big paw, chewed on a cardboard box, took hold of my pant leg and wouldn't let go, as she did with my hair. She has been barking a lot today as Travis tries to sleep. I don't know what she wants. Last night, at Sara's, as Lucy wore herself out as usual, she curled up on a pillow on the floor and put the end of her tail in her mouth. She fell asleep like that. She is quite silly.

Nap Time Is Cherished

Lucy plays hard for about 30 minutes then she needs to take a nap. We were at Sara and Billy's and she was playing with Daisy and Forrest's Red Lobster toy. Sara couldn't wait until she wore herself out so she would sleep on her lap. Sara sang her Guns N Roses songs to put her to sleep. Lucy is very snuggly when it comes to napping. She likes to be in your lap, on your pillow or against your body in any way. She is so warm and soft and she snores! Once Lucy gets to sleep, she will sleep, if at home, for about 2 hours, or if we are out at Sara's for about 30 minutes. She is very cute to look at while she sleeps, and you can touch her saggy cheeks, ears, and big paws without waking her. She sleeps like a baby....

What Makes Me So Adorable?

Lucy took to us quite well. She is amazing to watch. She has many funny antics. When she stands at the curb, her chin rests on it. She is just 8.8lbs. She can climb the stairs, but not come down, except once when she tripped on her ear and came tumbling down, all ears and paws, to Travis' hands. When she sleeps, she chatters her teeth. She likes to eat hair. Awhile back I had a dream that I caught a "Pebble Eating Dog Fish." Well, who would ever guess that I would one day have a "Pebble Eating Dog"? She is always snatching up small pebbles when I walk her. She dips half of her ears into her water bowl and when she is done drinking, her entire face, ears, and paws are dripping wet.

What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

When we finally got home, 12 hours later, Travis went to bed because he had to work that night. So I was alone with Lucy. I was filled with emotion. I put her on her leash and took her outside where I broke down crying. Had I made the wrong decision adopting Lucy? I know nothing about puppies and did not know what exactly I was supposed to do with her. So I sat in the grass and put her on my lap. I looked her over. She was a perfect puppy, all paws and ears and kisses. It was then that I knew I would some how figure this out.

Welcome To Our Lives Lucy

August 19th, 2006

After finding Lucy online, I fell in love immediately. She was 9 weeks old, had long saggy ears, huge paws, and big droopy eyes. I had to have her. Travis finally gave in and we were on our way. After 14 hours in the car, we made it to Joplin,MO at 9pm. The family was waiting for us. A little girl named Kate came to us holding her. She was just as I had expected. I loved how she smelled, how soft her pink belly was, and how she was so generous with her puppy kisses! After paperwork, questions, and good byes, we were on our way home, but this time with a little puppy in our laps. This picture is of me holding her before leaving MO.
