Announcing "Lucy The Wonder Dog!"

Lucy has learned a new trick. It is called SITTING! I also have taught her to SHAKE MY HAND! I am so excited. I am going to try to get her good at these new tricks and then work on getting her to give me a high five and lay down. I think she is a wonder dog for sitting and shaking! Maybe it is the adult dog food I have been feeding her, I am not sure.

Playing at "The Farm"

Lucy loves to go to Belleville to play at "the farm." She runs in the sprinklers, pulls weeds, drags sticks around and chews on them. She found a dead mouse, a live snake in the flower bed, and was a "reverse gardner" as mommy called her, because she was picking her newly planted plants. (Mommy was QUITE mad.) I am researching a company called Bark Busters who come to your home and train you and your pet. She is at that age where manners are much needed or she will have no friends but me. Lucy is so funny. She wants to be "friends" with mommy's weed wackers, the chainsaw, and the electric air compressor, all very NOISY. But then she barks at a spider on the wall like it is going to kill us both. She is quite silly. In this picture if you are wondering, they had rented a dumpster on wheels to clean up some stuff out of the pig barns that won't burn. In the back is the shed Daddy built which we call the "club house" for Lucy to go to if it rains since she is not allowed in the house. It is nice to take her out to Belleville to exercise and then she sleeps the whole way home, and all afternoon for me! One last story. Yesterday Lucy was barking like mad out the window and I got up to look and mom and day ducks were on our front porch with 9 fuzzy babies! I had to go out and sadly scare them across the yard so Lucy could go out and potty. We also saw baby birds in Belleville with like 2 twigs of hair on their heads!

Lucy's First Birthday!!!

Lucy celebrated her first birthday on Saturday, June 6th. I can not believe that I have had her for a year already. For her birthday I got her one of those big pillows for dogs to lay on on the floor, but put it on the bed next to my pillow. She is having trouble getting comfortable on the bed pillow, as she is 35 lbs! The vet thinks she will not get much bigger. She was the runt of her brothers and sisters. Most female Bassets get to be about 65 lbs. I am not sure why she is so small, even though I think she is so BIG. The other day when I got home, a crew showed up with a jack hammer type tool to bash the sidewalk in front of my door out. Poor Lucy was terrified. She ran in circles, and barked. She jumped up on the bed, and hid her head and front legs under the blankets, still standing on her back legs. She looked so funny. She would run into the kitchen and peek around the corner, scared out of her mind. Luckily, they were quick at their work and we were soon able to get to sleep.
