My, What Large Ears You Have!

Lucy is 9 months old now and is getting better every day. She sometimes has bad judgement calls though. The other day I was exhausted and slept most of the day, so she did not get her normal play time in with me. Apparently she decided to entertain herself and pulled the phone book out from under the DVD player (holding it level since I have no t.v. stand yet) and had it open to the attorney section and ate it! I adore Lucy. She is great company. She has seperation anxiety in a bad way. If I leave in the day to go have lunch or something, she gets so upset by my being gone that she barks herself sick, and pukes in her cage. The vet said this is quite common with dogs and there is a medicine that can help her. I hope so. It is heartbreaking whenever I leave. The picture on the top is showing how long her ears are getting. They are so soft to touch, you can barely feel them! And the other picture is of her Aqua dog, just out of the wash. I think he is trying to compete with Lucy on who can have the most silly ears!

"My Bone Is Gi-Normous!"

I got Lucy this "busy bone" and it weighs a ton. I do not know how she manages to pick it up and carry it, but she does. She does not chew on it like a normal dog might, she just hides it. It is hard to know what she will and will not chew on, some she never eats. Lucy has been enjoying the snow except we now have a problem since the 14 inches fell. When she stands on the snow in the yard she sinks in. The snow goes up to her arm pits but her feet are not yet on the ground and she can't get out. I have to carry her out. She has been peeing on the snow on the sidewalk and we do our runs and walks on the pavement and the parking lot, not the play area. Some time this month Lucy will go in for her heart worm blood test and get her microchip. She is 9 months old this month. I am sad because Lucy's nose at the end is red and a bit bloody and sore looking. She has rug burn on her nose from "burying" bones all over, and "covering" them with dirt which she does by dragging her nose on the carpet over to the bone as if hiding it. I assume that she will stop this behavior if her nose bothers her but it just looks so sad. Poor Puppy.

My Little Helper..Sort Of.

Lucy insists on "helping" me do everything, from changing the bedding, to putting my pants on. She does this by biting the sheets and laying on them so I can get nothing done, and holding on tight to pant legs. She is getting bigger by the day. At the vets last week she weighed in at 35lbs. She is solid weight. When she stands on your chest when you lay down, she takes your breath away. She has gotten tall enough to pull things off the counters and tries her best at getting something, ANYTHING in her mouth. I am constantly hollering "Lucy! Down!" and she does not listen. She only responds to "Lucy Come." This new collar has a 30 day training guide with basic commands, so once I get it working, I will work on her behaving better. She sleeps on my pillow aroung my head or on the pillow next to me. She curls up against your back or belly and sleeps so soundly, while I pet her or rub her belly. I love this puppy more then I ever could have imagined. She loves the snow and going with me to warm my car up before work, insisting on climbing in while I start it. Lucy's ears are getting really long too. I always tell her "those ears are like mittens on your head!"

Down Time For Lucy

Living full time with Lucy has become a joy. She has the cutest personality and does so many things to make me laugh each day, I like having her around. She got into something last week in the back yard and before I could get it out of her mouth, it was swallowed. I came home from work to find my poor puppy covered in pooh in her bed. She was quite ill. I got her into the tub, after a nice bath, which she did not complain about, I called the vet. She was so patient with the vet, who kneels down to her level because she is a "low rider." When she went to get an injection, Lucy wanted to look out the window, which is like shoulder hight. I picked her up and was holding her when the vet came back and she thought that was quite cute. Lucy is back to her bouncy self. I had to get her a shock collar to get her to quit going potty on the carpet, and quit digging at the rugs. It does not work. Her and Timmie are getting along better. They see each other from opposite sides of the baby gate and paw at each other. This picture is of Lucy relaxing under the coffee table that acts as a computer desk right now, as I played online on a day off. Look how HUGE her paws are. Lucy is always by my side.
